Biography
Jesus de Miguel's artistic practice is rooted primarily in painting, which he approaches as a field of intuitive experimentation where gesture, colour, and materiality form a visual language in constant transformation. Rather than beginning with fixed concepts, his work develops through spontaneous associations, allowing images, symbols, and forms to evolve throughout the creative process.
His paintings are characterised by a direct and energetic execution in which the physicality of gesture is balanced by a search for formal reduction. Primitive forms, organic figures, signs, and symbolic structures engage with references to contemporary culture, cave painting, science fiction, popular imagery, and humour. Rather than presenting a single narrative, these elements invite multiple interpretations and leave meaning intentionally open.
Through this pictorial language, Jesus de Miguel explores the human experience, the relationship between intuition and reason, collective behaviour, and the enduring presence of symbolic thought. His paintings affirm painting as a territory of freedom, where material, colour, and gesture retain the power to surprise, challenge, and open new possibilities for interpretation.
